The Night of the Iguana
March 28 to April 12
Within the broken down environs of a cheap Mexican Hotel, the human needs and conflicts of a group of people thrown together by circumstance, become explicit. Many of the characters and much of the plot is driven by the desire for and the consequences of sexual relations. Alternately funny and heartbreaking, Williams takes us into the moving, tormented heart of the human condition and proposes that the spirit survives even beyond the limits of anguish.

THE TEMPEST
Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 7:30 pm
The Tempest by William Shakespeare presented by The Acting Studio. Lovers meet, villainy is uncovered, and passions are unleashed in this magical story from one of the world’s greatest playwrights. A mighty storm shipwrecks Queen Alonsa, Dutchess Antonia, and their party on the shores of a mysterious island. There they are tempted by spirits, teased by sprites, and tormented by monsters—all by the unseen hand of Prospera, the woman they marooned and betrayed years ago. Will Prospera inflict a horrible vengeance or will she forgive the women who wronged her and her son? Find out how this classic tale unfolds on the Lazzara stage as we present The Tempest. The latest adaptation of Shakespeare’s work, considered both a comedy and a romance by critics, is presented by The Acting Studio—New York’s finest acting school, acclaimed with producing award winning talent and considered the country’s “Home of the Serious Actor.”

Gilbert & Sullivan’s THE MIKADO

Friday, April 4 - 7:30 p.m., MAINSTAGE
Tickets - $45 - $36 - $26

London's acclaimed Carl Rosa Opera Company returns to the THCA with this sparkling and lavish recreation of Gilbert & Sullivan's original 1885 Savoy production of The Mikado. As one of the Gilbert & Sullivan's most popular comic pieces, The Mikado delivers a satiric look at love triangles and political hypocrisy in the fairy-tale setting of ancient Japan. A production four years in the making, the Carl Rosa Opera Company used Gilbert's authenticated prompt book as its source for direction, staging, and choreography, and presents the original costumes, now restored to their full glory and recently seen on the screen in Mike Leigh's Oscar-winning film, Topsy-Turvy.

This production is guaranteed to delight your eyes and ears - all while tickling your funny bone.

William Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET

Friday, April 11 - 10:15 a.m., MAINSTAGE
All seats - $8

The passions of first love, the emotions of teenage rebellion and the dramatics of family conflict all take center stage in this critically acclaimed production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. A talented cast of actors brings the classic text alive with a pulsing rock score and a contemporary feel perfect for today's students.

Set on the futuristic streets of a crumbling wasteland called Verona, Romeo and Juliet are young star-crossed lovers, of two warring clans, who secretly dare to love amid eruptions of violence and familial hatred. With the tragic death of their children, the families realize that their hatred can only lead to tragedy, and they vow a new course of harmony, understanding and peace.

MARCUS BELGRAVE- A Tribute to Louis Armstrong

Saturday, May 10 - 7:30 p.m., MAINSTAGE
Tickets - $24 - $18 - $12

The unmistakable songs made famous by Louis Armstrong ring clear in this special tribute by trumpeter Marcus Belgrave and his eight-member band.

Blessed with the chops and personality to pay a fitting tribute to the New Orleans legend, Marcus Belgrave is hailed as one of the few performers working today with the essential qualities needed to deliver a loving and convincing tribute to Louis Armstrong.

Belgrave is an astonishing trumpet virtuoso with a natural gravelly voice, an engaging warm stage persona and down home sense of humor. Hand picked by Wynton Marsalis as one of the original members of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Belgrave is joined by his eight-piece band in this show that is big in sound, big in respect and big with audiences across the country. This season finale truly is a musical journey through the life and story of one of America's most beloved musicians of all time.

The Sound of Music
June 4 – July 27

Based on the uplifting true story of the Von Trapp family, The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, the spirited young woman who leaves the convent to become governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp, an autocratic widower whose strict household rules leave no room for music or merriment. Through her youthfulness and zest for life she brings happiness and love to the von Trapp family. A timeless family classic which touches the hearts of all ages, the score brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including My Favorite Things, Do Re Mi, Edelweiss, Climb Every Mountain, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music
