Besides the soup based classes mentioned in the Soup article on this page, the Williams-Sonoma at the Avenues (904) 538-0750 or the St. Johns Town Center (904) 998-4304 will also be offering another free hour-long technique class on January 20th. You can learn how to make chili during this Chili Basics demo.
It’s a bit early, but I thought I’d let you in on some of the February Valentines and chocolate related events. Seasonal stuff like this tends to fill up fast.
First, on Febuary 3rd, there’s another demo class at Williams-Sonoma, this time for chocolate. Learn to make something decadent in time to make it for your sweetheart, or yourself.
Apron’s Cooking School (Publix 10500 San Jose Blvd. 904-262-4187) has a number of Valentine’s related cooking classes, both hands on and cooking-show style demo. The Father Daughter Valentine’s classes are already full, but their Romantic Rendezvous classes are not. Go to their website to check out what they have to offer, prices and current availability at publix.com/aprons/schools/CookingSchools.do
Mark your calendars for the evening of Friday, February 8, 2008. That’s the date of the 7th annual Chocolates of the World Gala and Dessert Competition.  It’s taking place at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach. This year’s event features six competitors, including new chocolate artists and several returning regional chefs. All six compete for prizes in three categories, Best Station, Best Presentation and Best Taste! All prizes are judged by the attendees - you’ll be able to taste each dessert and cast your vote.
This event has sold out in the past so get your tickets today! For $75, you can feast on an international dinner buffet, have a taste of all six desserts and then have the ability to cast a ballot to pick the best chefs.  You’ll also be able to meet our special guest, Joy of Cooking author Ethan Becker, and you’ll have the opportunity to win a variety of silent auction and raffle prizes. To buy your tickets, go to ivcjax.com, or call the International Visitor Corps of Jacksonville at (904) 346-3942.
