Dancing with the Stars is ready to get their Cha-Cha on with Jacksonville residents. The ABC show that has been made famous by celebrities who twist and contort their way back into the spotlight through advanced ballroom dance moves and extremely dexterous dance partners, is going on an American tour.
Some of the shows most popular celebrities will be rotating on the shows third national tour, including season five’s big names, such as Wayne Newton with partner Cheryl Burke, Marie Osmond dancing with Jonathan Roberts, and Sabrina Bryan with Mark Ballas. From season three, Joey Lawrence (Whoa!) will be dancing with Edyta Sliwinska and Monique Coleman, along with professional dancers Derek Hough, Alec Mazo and Brian Fortuna. Even Drew Lachey, season’s two celebrated winner, will be making surprise appearances throughout the tour. And other performers from the famed TV show will be making surprise appearances as well.
Wayne Newton won’t just be showcasing his dancing skills, either. He will also be making a few special music performances throughout the tour. And a live band will accompany each of the dance numbers, a much loved, crucial aspect behind the success of the show.
Never-before-seen rehearsal footage, exclusive behind the scenes interviews and outtakes along with many other surprise extras will be showcased on two huge video feeds to the left and right of the stage. It will be a show sure to keep viewers on their toes.
But one thing viewers can expect is some sensational dancing. If you are familiar with the show you know the judges have always expected superior quality and craftsmanship from the celebrities, and the dance partners are award-winning ballroom dancers who guide their celebrities through the dances, showing them the ropes.
Jacksonville won’t just be coming out as spectators either. In 1985, the dance movie Girls Just Want to Have Fun, which starred Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt, featured a local dance competition held to choose local winners to become a part of a national dance television show. Jacksonville residents are being given the same glamorous, while slightly tacky, chance to become a part of our own nationally acclaimed dance craze mania!
The Soft Scrub Dancing with the Stars Local Dance Challenge invited people from all across the city to come out and showcase their own dancing skills in a qualifying event. From there, ten couples were given the chance to compete before the shows producer prior to the Dancing with the Stars show at the Veterans Memorial Arena on Tuesday, January 22nd. And finally, on the night of the show, two couples of the ten will be chosen as winners to go on to perform during the show with the rest of the Dancing with the Stars celebrities! Who knows, four lucky people might get to share the stage with Wayne Newton, or perhaps even Drew Lachey!
The production will be full of glitz and glam and is sure to include a few surprises, and even a brief fifteen minutes of fame for some of our very own. The show starts at 7:30 pm on January 22nd, doors are at 6:30 pm. Tickets are available.
