      Bottega di Bella Sera (919 King Street 904-387-1955) opened this week, selling a selection of to go meals, wines, locally grown vegetables and cheese. The name behind them is Catering by Liz, a well-known local caterer. “Bella Sera is now a place where our customers can experience our food and take it home to enjoy,” said Chef Liz Grenamyer, owner of Catering by Liz. “We are elated to open the retail section of Bella Sera to the public.”
      The Village Café and Bakery as well as both locations of Sweet Indulgence Café have closed. I don’t know if this is a trend, but I hope it isn’t. Support your sweet tooth and your local bakery!
      Collage (60 Hypolita Street, St. Augustine 904-829-0055) will be holding their first wine dinner of the year on January 22nd. They’ve teamed with Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery to create this five-course spread. At $90 a person, including gratuity and sales tax, this is a full fine dining experience at a steal! The menu is as follows: reception course--wild Mushroom and brie bouchee with Domaine St. Michelle Luxe; first course--onion soup and Swiss cheese flan, with dry riesling; second course--seafood lasagna on a saffron coulis and grilled roasted garlic crostini, with Indian Wells chardonnay; third course-- black pepper crepes, roasted lamb and goat cheese arugula salad, with Canoe Ridge cabernet sauvignon; fourth course-- venison medallions with cranberry port sauce, Yukon Gold mashers & roasted asparagus, with Cold Creek merlot; dessert course-- spiced apple Napoleons with pomegranate caramel sauce vanilla bean ice cream, with Muscat Canelli
     Mark your calendars for the evening of Friday, February 8, 2008. That’s the date of the 7th annual Chocolates of the World Gala and Dessert Competition.  It's taking place at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach.  This year's event features six competitors, including new chocolate artists and several returning regional chefs. All six compete for prizes in three categories, Best Station, Best Presentation and Best Taste!  All prizes are judged by the attendees - you'll be able to taste each dessert and cast your vote.  
      This event has sold out in the past so get your tickets today!  For $75, you can feast on an international dinner buffet, have a taste of all six desserts and then have the ability to cast a ballot to pick the best chefs.  You'll also be able to meet Joy of Cooking Author Ethan Becker, and you'll have the opportunity to win a variety of silent auction and raffle prizes.
