Madonna Melee at Malawi
Malawi police and stone-throwing students blocked journalists from covering Madonna’s Home of Hope orphanage Tuesday, where David, the 19-month-old boy she is in the process of adopting, was slated to be briefly reunited with his biological father for a private visit. The singer has been trailed by hordes of media since touching down in the African nation Monday, accompanied by David and her 10-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Her rep has denied reports that she is looking into adopting another child from Malawi.


Not “If” He Did It!
Tuesday’s court-ordered auction of the rights to O.J. Simpson’s pseudo-confessional, If I Did It, halted after the surrogate company the former football star set up to collect his $1 million book advance declared bankruptcy on Monday, an attorney for Fred Goldman said. Goldman planned to ask a U.S. bankruptcy court to sell him the rights to the book in a bid to collect some of the $33.5 million in damages Simpson was ordered to pay in 1997.


Drunk and Disorderly
Lily Allen canceled most of her U.S. tour dates in May and June, writing on her MySpace page that she’s been “getting really drunk” recently, and has become “so nervous about doing bad shows.” The singer still planned to perform at Coachella on Apr. 29 and Bonnaroo on June 15 and aims to reschedule her canceled dates for this fall. “I am not falling apart at the seams, I am not suffering with exhaustion, I am not pregnant, and I am not going to rehab,” she clarified. Yeah, she can’t drink in rehab!


Another Underwood Triumph
Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats took home three honors, including Video of the Year, at the 2007 CMT Music Awards, for which fans vote for the winners online. Meanwhile, the Dixie Chicks remain winless at award shows with the word “country” in the title. Other winners Monday night included videos from Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, and 17-year-old Taylor Swift


Spidey Goes Broadway
A musical adaptation of Spider-Man is coming to Broadway in July, with U2’s Bono and The Edge supervising the songbook, according to Playbill. The stage mag reported that a “rehearsed reading” of the musical will take place on July 12 and 13.


Go With Inner Elvis
With the 30th anniversary of Elvis’death coming up in August, Elvis Presley Enterprises is launching a new ad campaign in a bid to up Graceland’s appeal as a tourist destination. The “Discover Your Inner Elvis” campaign will extend over television, print, radio and online platforms, as well as on billboards and in travel guides, marking the first time the brand has advertised nationally.


Litigious Lopez
Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony are filing suit against the National Enquirer in Dublin, London and Paris courts after the tabloid published a story linking them to a European drug scandal. The clean-living couple is seeking a six-figure settlement, apology and a retraction of the article.


A Star for Forest
Forest Whitaker received the 2,335th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Monday. The Oscar winner’s wife Keisha and three daughters were in attendance, along with guests Keifer Sutherland and Angela Bassett.


Like a Phoenix Rising from The Ashes
It may have gone down, down, down in a burning ring of fire, but former Bee Gee, Barry Gibb is about to raise it again. Gibb has announced plans to build a new home near the Nashville site where Johnny and June Carter Cash’s home burned down last week. Gibb purchased the property in 2006 and was in the process of remodeling it when the fire broke out.
