The City of Jacksonville Beach hosts its 13th Mother’s Day POPS! AT THE BEACH Concert, featuring the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra (JSO) on Sunday, May 13, 2007. What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than attending this favorite annual event. Admission is free. This is the seventh Mother’s Day concert on the Sea Walk Pavilion stage, designed specifically to meet the requirements of the JSO. The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at 8 PM. Moms of the First Coast, their families and friends, will be treated to a special performance conducted by Scott Gregg, who is in his 12th year as music director and principal conductor of the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra. The large stage screen and use of cameras create an intimate experience for everyone in the audience, giving rarely seen views of the performers and the conductor.
Music starts at 6 pm with a performance by the Jacksonville School of Music presenting “Hitsville: Motown Forever.” In the beginning was the sound...and the sound was Motown! You’ll hear all your favorite Motown hits like “ABC”, “Brick House”, “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”, “Midnight Train to Georgia”, “Super Freak”, “Ooh Baby Baby” “For Once in My Life”, “Baby Love”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and more. Directed by Deborah McDuffie, the cast includes local Jacksonville performers Steven Amburgey, Edna Bland, Kayla Cummings, Wendi Floyd, Akeisha Fluker, Josh Howell, Mark Hall, Ashton Henderson, Deidra Hills, Enaris Inman, Fred Johnson, Tanner Lane, Tim O’Berry, Greylyn Paluszynski, Eric Thomas, Andre Troutman and John White and Hermia Williams Dancers.
