beachwise: WaveMasters Surf Contest
24th Annual WaveMasters Surf Contest

If you missed out on the Subaru of Jacksonville 24th Annual WaveMasters Surf Contest at the Jax Beach Pier, you missed out on a good one. The contest was held on May 5th & 6th, and was blessed with some of the best waves they’ve had in years. More than 200 of the state’s top competitors showed up to compete in the amature and pro divisions, to fight for cash and prizes, to raise money for youth and environmental charities.

Local Talent

Atlantic Beach’s Wayne “PJ” Satterwhite won the tough OPEN division by beating out competitors of all ages, and took home a trip to Costa Rica from MartinAir. forecasted conditions

Thank God for Global Warming if it is going to keep bringing us waves all summer. We have been blessed the last two weeks with consistent surf, and it doesn’t seem to want to stop just yet. We should see the waves start to pick back up on Friday and Saturday bringing in chest-high sets. Sunday and Monday bring a drop in the size, but the rideable surf should stick around for most of the week. Make sure you make it out, because at Jax Beach we always have the chance of a long flat spell. But don’t take my weekly word for it, call or log on to your local report daily to find out what the present conditions are for your favorite break.
