No longer do you have to walk all the way to Starbucks for a cup of joe and a tasty tea to sip at the Downtown Library. Instead, visit Shelby’s Coffee Shop located right there inside the library.
Besides Batdorf-Bronson Coffee, organic decaf gourmet coffees, teas and the usual morning beverages, they also serve gourmet sandwiches and salads. Have a club sandwich or go a little exotic with Shelby’s “The Strand Sandwich,” a mix of chicken salad, fresh sprouts, pecans, grapes and tomatoes on 8-grain bread.
For breakfast, you can order an omelet to enjoy, a classic lox and cream cheese bagel, or on the sweeter side, get yourself a muffin, pastry or fruit cup.
Wi-fi internet access is available and you can bring their food and beverages into the library areas that aren’t carpeted. They keep library hours, so you’ll always be able to grab a quick bite between hitting the books.
Info: (904) 301-1065
Hours: Sun-Thurs 7 am-9 am, Fri & Sat 7 am-11pm
The library is a bastion of free events for both kids and adults here in Jacksonville. Summer is a great time to head on down to library for a free event. We’ve focused here on some of the upcoming events at the Main Library, but each branch has its own set for unique activities, so check your local library as well.
Get the thrill of the big screen with the nostalgia of a classic movie. Baby Boomers grew up with these movies, but everybody should see the definitive films in this series. See great movies Boomers grew up with that still enthrall and intrigue all generations.
Each free showing is at 5:45 pm in the Main Library Auditorium. Enjoy a complimentary popcorn and soft drink, then enjoy an evening Downtown. Call (904) 630-1741 for more information. The series continues on throughout the year. For a full schedule, please go to jaxpubliclibrary.org.
