JUNE 27
WALL-E What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL*E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet's future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL*E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets an adventure into motion. Joining WALL*E on his journey across the universe is a cast of characters including a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots. Featuring the voices of: Jeff Garlin, Benjamin Burtt, Kim Kopf and Fred Willard. disney.go.com/disneypictures/wall-e WANTED Get ready for and full throttle action film with Angelina Jolie behind the wheel of a fire engine red Viper in this comic book hero flick. Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody's transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice. Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is a hero for a new generation. 25-year-old Wes was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock-punching rut. Until he meets a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie). After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits him into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his father's death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself. With wickedly brilliant tutor - including the fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. From the comic book miniseries, consisting of six issues written by Mark Millar with art by J. G. Jones and published by Top Cow in 2003 and 2004. Tom Waits Times Union Center, (904) 633-6110 Singer, songwriter, composer, actor; Tom Waits does it all. And, after three decades in show business, he's pretty good at it all too! The modern day Renaissance man has well over a dozen albums to his name, two of which took home Grammy Awards. He even snagged himself an Oscar nomination back in 1982 for his contribution to Francis Ford Coppola's film One from the Heart. This month Waits will hit the road in both the US and the UK in what's been named the "Glitter and Doom Tour." In a recent interview for antilabelblog.com, Waits said he'll be doing songs that he's "never attempted outside the studio." Because he rarely tours and when he does it's usually larger cities, his upcoming stop in the River City is a huge coup for Jacksonville and a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans. Waits will perform at the Times-Union Center's Moran Theater on July 1st. Tickets to this unforgettable concert are $85 and are available through Ticketmaster. Some cities on the Glitter and Doom Tour sold out immediately so it may be wise to get yours as soon as possible. For more information, please call the Times-Union Center box office at 630-3900.
