This weekend the boys will be hackin’ away at Oakmont Country Club, just outside of Pittsburgh, for the U.S. Open Golf Championship. For all intents, this tournament is considered the toughest event to win in all of golf, simply from the size and quality of the field of players looking to win it.
Obviously the man everybody will follow will be Eldrick Woods, as he tries to win his third Open Championship. Last year Tiger missed the cut as he was grieving over his late father’s illness. And so he will certainly be back into this event, looking to capture yet another Major, after faltering at Augusta earlier this season.
We will also see Phil Mickelson, who has an injured wrist, but still will play through the pain. We will see a number of others, including several amateurs, as they try to manage this course that many people have said is going to be brutal to play on, due to its difficulty. It is quite possible that a final winning score being over par will win the tournament.
I’m gonna sound like a little kid here, but in auto racing, what I’m about to lay out here is one serious issue.
To me, the biggest deal here is the fact that Dale, Jr. will NOT be able to drive in the #8 car. That number is owned by stepmother Teresa, who owns DEI. She is not about to release that number to Dale Jr. by any means, unless he wants to buy it! And so I question not only who will be driving that #8 vehicle next season, but also will its color be red, and also who will be sponsoring it? Because if it is a red #8 car, we will all be thinking about Dale, Jr. and Budweiser, without any question whatsoever, and that is going to be a conflicting situation.
Then you go on the other side and wonder what the car will look like that Dale Jr. will indeed be driving in. It is almost a given that his main sponsor will be Budweiser, whose main logo color is red. And so will we see Dale in a red Budweiser vehicle, and what number will that vehicle be?
I might be sounding idiotic here, but I view this whole situation as if it were a complete reality show soap opera, with twists and turns on an almost daily basis. We shall indeed see how it all plays out. Stay tuned.
Only a few weeks ago, so many fans and media pundits were laying the New York Yankees to rest, saying they were done for the year. Their pitching was awful, and their hitting was non-existent.
Imagine what a difference a few days have made. Now, all of the sudden, the Yanks have their guys coming around, becoming more productive, and they are scoring runs. Combine that with some good pitching performances, in addition to Roger Clemens now on the scene, and the Yankees are at .500 and getting back into the thick of things as we enter into the dog days of Summer.
Its simply amazing to me how some people are so short-sighted in viewing the performance of teams, especially in the Major Leagues. The Yankees are not the only team that is making a move. The Seattle Mariners are on a tear as well, having recently won nine of their last ten games. The Oakland A’s are winning games as well, after sweeping the Giants in San Francisco last weekend. It makes for interesting fodder, for sure, as teams play through this month of June.
Without question, the San Antonio Spurs were an overall much better team than the Cleveland Cavaliers. Their depth on the starting line, with Tim Duncan, Bruce Bowen, and Tony Parker, combined with Manu Ginobili and others, showed they are simply better in all facets than the Cavs, who, after LeBron James, almost seemed to have nothing to work with. It has made for a lackluster NBA Finals. The NBA cannot be happy at all.
