Good Morning America film critic Joel Siegel passed away Friday in New York after a long battle with cancer. He was 63. Siegel plied his trade for the ABC morning show for 25 years, also authoring a book dedicated to his son, Lessons to Dylan, in 2003 after learning he had the disease.
Two workers dismantling a Rolling Stones set from Thursday night’s concert in Madrid fell to their deaths from a metal scaffold Friday. Two other workers were injured, one critically. Police said three workers fell from a height of 30 feet and landed on the fourth worker.
Lily Allen was arrested Thursday for allegedly punching a paparazzo in the face as she left a club with her boyfriend back in March. The singer reportedly visited a London police station where she was photographed and had her fingerprints and a DNA sample taken, and was bailed out to return in July. Allen has expressed her discomfort with photographers in the past, recently writing on her MySpace page: “I don’t sleep and take drugs with famous people (I have a boyfriend I’ve been with for nearly 3 years), I don’t go to film premieres. I don’t go shopping in the paparazzi hotspots, so please leave me alone.” Then why did she get into show business?
Danny DeVito will receive a special award for his outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the 42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Prague, organizers said. (Nice to see that he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves for screen gems such as Throw Mama From the Train and Twins.) The festival kicked off Friday and runs through July 7.
Katie Price and Peter Andre, stars of E!’s Katie and Peter, welcomed a baby girl on Friday, according to their rep. Jesus Solaria and Jessi Peralta were the latest competitors to trip over their own feet on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance Thursday. Fourteen finalists remain in the running to prove that they can dance. The show returns in two weeks, with Hairspray director and choreographer Adam Shankman.
Britney Spears was photographed delivering documents to her mother outside a trailer in Valencia Thursday, leading to reports that the pop princess had served Lynne with a restraining order. However, Lynne later clarified to photo agency, X17, that “she didn’t serve me,” but declined to explain the documents beyond saying sarcastically it was a “love letter.” Per TMZ, the mysterious paperwork was actually a letter from an out-of-state lawyer, asking Lynne not to be around her grandchildren if she’s taking any medication that could impair her judgment.
Kevin Federline hasn’t signed off on his divorce from Britney Spears yet because reports of her recent heavy partying have him too concerned to cut the cord, sources close to Federline tell E! News. “It’s not about money, it’s about her partying. It’s her partying ways that are forcing Kevin to put his foot down,” one source said. While the almost-exes continue to share joint legal and physical custody of their two sons under the current agreement, a source says K-Fed wants to make sure he can limit Brit’s access to the kids if her behavior gets out of hand again.
Jim Carrey is making a return to comedy with a starring role in Universal Pictures’ Sober Buddies, Daily Variety reports. The rubber-faced actor plays a court-appointed “sober buddy” assigned to keep a hard-partying software exec on the straight and narrow during an all-important business trip to Las Vegas. Trouble (and presumably hilarity) ensues when Carrey’s character falls off the wagon himself.
