4 great flavors
album review

Artist:
kLoB

Title:
4 Great Flavoris EP

The cover of kLoB’s new release looks like the kind of CD sampler you might find in stacks near the counter of your favorite record store or head shop. It looks like it can’t be any good—maybe some garage-band demo, or a young boy’s first foray into Pro Tools. But appearances can be deceiving, and 4 Great Flavors is proof-positive of the old saying that you can’t judge a book by its cover.

kLoB’s keyboards, harp and vocals anchor a four-piece that also includes bass, drums and saxophone. The sound is bluesy and playful, yet sincere. In terms of pure entertainment value, ‘All the Time’ is the strongest of the four tracks on the CD. It sounds a little like Satan himself, drunk, singing a Regina Spektor cover at a lesser demon’s wedding reception. Not bad at all! However, as a representation of the musicianship on display, ‘Tree’ is definitely the EP’s highlight.

Overall, 4 Great Flavors makes for a pretty effective advertisement for a group we’ll hopefully hear more of. For starters, you can hear them at the Tallyrand Festival on November 10 at Metro Park. Check out myspace.com/kLoBsong to hear for yourself.
