THE JOCK

Random thoughts from a cluttered mind...

JAGUARS

The Jags got back on the winning side of things in the NFL with their victory over the Titans. Now at 6-3, Jacksonville will be back home for the first game in over a month as they host the Chargers. After all the goings-on we heard last week, from the Marcus Stroud deal to the suspension of more players, a win can take a lot of that and tone it down, as everyone now will be more interested in seeing these guys play here in town and what they can do after being away for three games. We will also most likely see David Garrard come back after his ankle injury. After being on the shelf for three weeks (in which the Jags went 2-1), Garrard will give the Jag Offense the consistency they have been looking for, along with some QB mobility.
The Chargers come into Jacksonville after a win over the Colts. In that game, The Charger ‘D’ intercepted Peyton Manning SIX TIMES, so this will not be the easiest defense in the world to go up against. The Jags are in good position heading towards the latter part of this season. So, we shall see what the Jags can do as they come to play back home.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

After their win over Spurrier and his Gamecocks, the Florida Gators will have a vacation, for all intents, as they host Florida Atlantic. Unless something tremendously wild happens, it will be a sure win for UF. The Gators are still in the running for the SEC Championship game. A number of things would need to happen, namely a loss or win by certain teams in the next few weeks. We’ll see how it all shakes out.
Meanwhile, Florida State comes off their loss to Virginia Tech to host the Maryland Terrapins. The Seminoles’ season has been very mediocre by their previous standards. Things need to continue to change over in Tallahassee if FSU wants to get back to being what they were in the past. The Georgia Bulldogs continue their solid season with a home game against Kentucky, a squad that was looking great until a loss to Florida shut them down. In other games, #1 LSU will travel to Mississippi, and there are still two undefeated teams left in college football. Kansas will host Iowa State, while Hawaii will fly to Nevada to play on Friday night.

NASCAR

I guess we should just congratulate Jimmie Johnson for tearing up the circuit. Johnson won his FOURTH consecutive race last weekend in Phoenix and now will coast home for the massive Championship trophy when they go at it in Homestead. You have to give him a lot of credit. He has come through hard in the end to make it all happen.
