dish update

If you really want to impress a friend (or a girlfriend) with expensive taste in liquor, you might want to get them a bottle of Dos Lunas Grand Reserve, an Extra Añejo that breaks new ground in the luxury tequila category. Dos Lunas Tequila recently announced the launch of this luxe tequila, which has a going price of 2,500. That’s dollars. Not pesos. It’s the only tequila to be bottled in hand-blown, individually numbered Baccarat decanters.  Each decanter is housed in an equally luxurious ebonized wood box with an accompanying crystal stopper and sterling silver key and necklace. Grand Reserve is available online at totalbeverage.net and shoppersvineyard.com.
Speaking of gifts, if you’re in the Jacksonville Beach area on Saturday December 15th, why not head over to World Market (950 Marsh Landing Parkway) for their “Wines for Gift-Giving Tasting.” It’s free and you can do some Christmas shopping while you’re there.
This Saturday, have a little chicken in honor of the late, great Julius Caesar at the Back Porch Café (3031 Monument Road, 904-998-9918). They’re serving up their Et Tu Chicken as a dinner special. It’s a breast of chicken marinated in Caesar dressing pan sautéed and topped over sliced tomato (for blood of Caesar!) and sprinkled with Parmigiano cheese. It’s served with potato and vegetable du jour.
While the Holiday Feast Class at the deluxe Apron’s Cooking School (Publix, 10500 San Jose Blvd. 904-262-4187) is on the 21st (at 6:30 pm), we recommend reserving a seat now! It’s a lot like being on a cooking show. The chef does all the work, explains his technique and you get to sample it all while sipping wine. At $45 a person this provides food and entertainment for the night. Here’s the menu: Bibb Salad with Raspberry and Maple Dressing with Duck Breast, served with Chardonnay; Goat Cheese and Peppercorn-Crusted Lamb Chops with a Cranberry Reduction, served with an Ancient-Vine Zinfandel; Standing Prime Rib Roast with Cabernet Demi-Glace, Horseradish Chantilly, and Roasted Red Bliss Mash, served with a California Cabernet; Chocolate Pecan Torte served with a Tawny Port.
