news & notes

Well last week I wrote about how I was losing my interest in NASCAR and a couple of things that where the cause of it but Bubba and Bubbets let me tell you that after that race at Talladega I have Changed My Tune! The first thing that got me headed in the right direction was the fact that my friend John and myself sat down and watched that baby. “Bubba. We’re watching Dega this week” and everything started falling into place.

Now sometimes I get a bunch of grub and take over there and once and a while he’ll get out there in the yard and BBQ some ribs and I meant to tell you, this man can cook some ribs. Like I said earlier, we used to do this bout every Sunday. We sit there and kid each other about our drivers and say all these thing about them and how bad some are doing and tell him that Kasey ain’t got a chance for the Cup and then he gets on to me about Johnson and Gordon, well you know how that goes.

One of our favorite things is the commercials and how stupid some of them are and we say, “How Bout Some New Ones”? I think the TV drowns us out or something. They got this one about the three women making google eyes over Kahne and backing into that pole and all, well that’s an old one and most of the rest maybe newer but gee whiz we’re tired of them. Do we really have to wait until next year to catch a break, just a few would make us happy because there are some that do make us laugh but none of them makes us want to run out and buy the product. You know, come to think of it they didn’t show a couple of the ones I like such as where Ole D W is driving the bus or the Bamulance as Petty says it. Perhaps it has gotten to costly to show some of these on NBC or TNT because they did pay some BIG BUCKS to get NASCAR T V rights.

I was telling John about how good it was to sit there and see those guys go three, four and even five abreast at speeds of 180 MPH or more and to see the center groove freight train up the middle of the track and pass the cars on either side. Don’t get me wrong, bath tub and toilet bowl racing is also great stuff but when you get these guys going so fast and so close together, well that is some real hard to beat racing. When the race is on and they are running full out we don’t talk too much because the volume is turned up so loud that I think everybody on Southside can hear the race. We do a lot of hand signals and things with our faces to show the thoughts that we want to convey to each other and sometimes it’s that middle finger wave I’ll give him when he knows his guy bumped mine.

It’s times like this that I wished I hadn’t said anything to y’all about NASCAR falling from my graces but there are also times that I just can’t believe what NASCAR does and what some of the drivers do but I’ll get to that in a minute. Needless to say last Sunday at John’s was a Great Time and I came right home and went to bed cause I couldn’t move after all the food I ate but that’s racing ain’t it? You know to be with friends that enjoy NASCAR, whether it’s at the track or in front of the tube, is what can make you really enjoy it. To sit and watch it alone is not near as much fun when you can eat, laugh at, pick on each other or just sit there a know what your bud’s thinking cause when your watching your like the drivers on the track, your in the groove and having a blast! I think I’ll spend the rest of the season with John watching the races and not even caring who wins the Cup, well maybe just a little bit.

Well after so many weeks of the fans, the media (me for one) and Roush Racing are trying to figure out just what the heck Mark Martin is going to do for the 2007 season? Martin comes out with a plan of his own. Now why would he break ties with Jack and Ford Motor Company to go over to MB2? For 2007 it will be Ginn Racing and Chevrolet, well we’ll probably never know that for sure. Mark said, “I not only get to drive, but I also get to teach and I love doing both.” Geoff Smith with Roush said, “When Mark finally reconciled his somewhat conflicting desires……, We had no way of accommodating….” Seems to me that Martin was having trouble deciding what he wants to be when he grows up, ya think? For now we know that he’ll he in the #01 Army car for 22 races and the rookie Regan Smith will drive the others. Hold on a minute, the 01, isn’t that Front Row Joe’s car?

No, Joe ain’t leaving he’s just getting a new number, the #13 and they need a sponsor but Bobby Ginn says things are in the works for one. If there’s a problem he’s got a couple of bucks he could throw in and sponsor it if need be. He also says that he thinks that Waste Management is back for next year so Sterling Marlin will still have the #14 so it looks like the team is going to be set for 2007. You know you could name this team, “Three Men and A Baby” with the old timers and this rookie racing but I think these guys are going to build a real good team, may take some time but keep watching them. Mark said a few weeks back that he wanted to take a break and perhaps a 22 race season will give him that because he also said that for 2008 he just might come back to full time so this is a good move for him.

I said that I would mention something earlier but it’s been run too much the ground this week so I’ll just say a few words here. Brian Vickers is a ______. I’ll let you insert what you want there because the words I have won’t be printable and with the negotiations fixing to get started on my new contract, I wouldn’t want to have the FCC come down on my rear end because I said a bad word or two or three. Junior seemed to take it well and Jimmie was real upset but I think that Chad Knaus may have said it best but it didn’t change the fact that the leaders where bumped and Vickers won the race. Chad put it this way, “I just don’t think he has the talent to understand what he has underneath him.” That’s all I’m going to say about this because like everybody says, “That’s Racing”, Yea Right!!

Okey Dokey, that’s all for this week and like usual if you want to contact me and Please do, it can be done at tinynascars@yahoo.com and again and even stronger now since Talladega and my good time watching the race with you know who and all the great food, If it ain’t NASCAR, It ain’t s**t!
