it’s party time
video game reviews

If you are hosting a party, it’s probably not a good idea to sit down in front of the TV to show everyone how great Final Fantasy XI is running on your new Xbox. I mean we’re probably agreeing with you there, but how much fun is it to sit around and watch one guy play a video game? It’s not exciting at all. If you want to have fun in large groups involving video games, you have to know which games to choose. Take a look at what I’ve come up with- these games may just become the life of the party.

Donkey Konga & Donkey Konga 2 - For Nintendo Gamecube
Donkey Konga is a great rhythm-based game, which makes use of a double-sided bongo drum-shaped controller. You can drum on the left, right or both, and clapping your hands above the microphone is also part of the game. Donkey Konga 2 allows up to 4 players to join in the fun, so head down to target and pick up this game along with some extra budget-priced bongo controllers, and get your bongo on. All of the songs are fun, family friendly renditions of mostly pop music, with some rock, R&B and Reggae thrown into the mix.

Guitar Hero - For Playstation 2
I hate to beat a dead horse, but I have to tell you that Guitar Hero is an awesome party game. It seems like every week I find a new way to talk about the game, but I think the hype is certainly worth it. If you don’t know, Guitar Hero is a game in which you take your Gibson guitar-shaped controller and strum along with the guitar-tab styled notes scrolling down the screen. With tons of popular songs to choose from and plenty of unlockable features, you and a friend can exchange licks on some of today’s most popular rock songs. By tilting the neck of the guitar upward at key moments, you can activate “star power” mode, enabling your on-screen avatar to do some crazy guitar stunts. The music will keep even spectators to this game excited, so this game is a definite party game must-have.

Karaoke Revolution Party - For Playstation 2
I know you are probably thinking the name of this game sounds like some new Japanese-American based group of radical politicians, but it isn’t. Karaoke Revolution Party is the latest game in the KR series, which makes use of the PS2 USB communicator headset and is even EyeToy compatible. If you have the lungs and the courage to belt out songs in front of your peers, Karaoke Revolution Party will give you the chance to do just that. And besides, who would pass up a chance to sing “Sweet Caroline” into a video game microphone?

Wario Ware Inc: Mega Party Games - For Nintendo Gamecube
Now this game is what you would call “a little different”. Basically a collection of fast-paced mini games designed to both challenge you and teach you to react more quickly than ever, Wario Ware Inc: Mega Party Games will have you addicted.
With the party mode, you can face up to 3 other people in various bizarre mini games that come in quick succession in 3 to 8-second spurts. Not a great game for hour-long game sessions, Wario Ware Inc: Mega Party Games is still a lot of fun when played in groups.
