WHO’S YOUR DADDY?

Paparazzo Larry Birkhead filed a paternity suit against Anna Nicole Smith, demanding that she return to California with newborn daughter Dannielynn Hope to submit to paternity and drug tests. In his petition, Birkhead alleges that Smith was addicted to methadone and that her lawyer Howard K. Stern--who announced last week that he was the father of the TrimSpa spokeswoman’s child--was facilitating her habit.

BOURNE TO BE WILD

Producers of The Bourne Ultimatum, the third installment of the Matt Damon-as-amnesiac spy flick, have extended an offer to Gael Garcia Bernal to become the film’s bad guy, per the Hollywood Reporter. The story centers on Jason Bourne discovering an unknown connection to his past and becoming tangled up with a rival super killer. Deja vu?

QUEER EYE FOR THE CANDLE GUY

Elton John teamed up with Bath & Body Works to launch his own line of candles and home fragrance products for the store, dubbed the Fireside Collection. Proceeds will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with reps saying the signature fragrance will be based on vanilla bean, smoky cedar wood and a heaping helping of gay.

GEORGE LOONEY

George Clooney told Vanity Fair of his plan to either thwart paparazzi credibility or live out every man’s fantasy: “I want to spend every single night for three months going out with a different famous actress. You know, Halle Berry one night, Salma Hayek the next, and then walk on the beach holding hands with Leonardo DiCaprio.” Hey, not Elton John?

SUDS SOURED

Weezer filed suit against the Miller Brewing Company, alleging the ale makers unlawfully used their name in a string of print ads in 2004 that were “grossly misleading and deceptive” and that the group suffered millions in damages as a result. The band also said they initially thought the ads were kind of hot, but now they say Miller is not less filling.

DO THE CRIME–DO THE TIME

Joseph Yacteen, the man who shot and wounded “Walking in Memphis” singer Marc Cohn during a 2005 carjacking was sentenced to 36 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree murder.

CUTTING REMARKS

Neck tattoo-sporting Project Runway finalist Jeffrey Sebelia spoke out on allegations that he cheated in the show’s finale by enlisting outside help to sew up his garments in his runway collection, calling them “unfounded” on a posting to his MySpace page. Sebelia also warned fans to “be careful what you read and also of what is presented in the press.”

GOT NO LOVE FOR KNOWLES

U.S. District Court dismissed the copyright infringement lawsuit brought against Beyoncé Knowles, Jay-Z, Sean Paul and the fellow creative types behind the hit single Baby Boy. Singer-songwriter Jennifer Armour claimed that the crew ripped off her song Got a Little Bit of Love for You, which she supposedly submitted to Mathew Knowles on a demo tape in 2003. The court ruled that the songs were “substantially dissimilar” and that Beyoncé is “substantially famouser.” Does that mean that being famous gives an artist more credibility. Like she wouldn’t steal a song from a no-body!

TIL DEATH DYING

Fox’s ‘Til Death extended its production hiatus by another week after star Brad Garrett took issue with the latest script, thereby making it a top contender for first cancellation of the fall season.

SOUP NAZI SIT-DOWN

Jerry Seinfeld was tapped to perform a new piece of stand-up and have a sit down on Fox’s fledgling Talkshow with Spike Feresten Oct. 21. Feresten is a former Seinfeld writer who penned the infamous “Soup Nazi” episode. Sure he’ll be there, but no soup for him
