Once a year, every fall, the tantalizing smells of funnel cakes and cotton candy along with the screams of delighted ride-a-maniacs fill the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. For twelve days (November 1 – 12) The Greater Jacksonville Fair returns for the 52nd year with this year’s theme being “lasso the fun”. There will be rides, music, games and fun for everyone. If you’ve never attended a county fair in the South you’re in for a delightful cultural experience.

November 1st @ 8PM: Gary Nichols gives the fair crowd a taste of blue collar country, with a pop sensibility.
November 2nd. @ 8PM: Josh Turner has gone platinum, twice. Currently his single “Would You Go With Me” is number one on Billboard’s Country Charts.
November 3rd @ 6PM: A Battle of the Bands hosted by Planet Radio, will showcase the finalists who have risen to the top after fierce competition at Jack Rabbits. Expect hard rock!
November 4th. @ 7PM: The 25th Colgate Country Showdown will feature the top 18 Florida finalists vying for the chance to kick start their burgeoning country careers.
November 6th @ 8PM: Natural Truth throws a little Motown music our way, complete with awesome harmonies and a classic sound.
November 7th. @ 8PM: Country music singer and songwriter, Phil Vassar, will be performing on the Fair stage. He’s written songs for such stars as Tim McGraw and Alan Jackson but is also a performer in his own right. His very first single, “Just Another Day in Paradise” rose to number one.
November 8th @ 8PM: Andy Griggs, a country rocker from Louisiana, DOES STUFF
November 9th @ 8PM: For some blues mixed with Texas-style country music, look no further than Lee Roy Parnell, who has been up for numerous Grammies and Country Music Awards.
November 10th@ 8PM: Heartland currently holds the number two spot on the Billboard Country Charts with their heartfelt hit “I Loved Her First.”
November 11th @ 8PM: Trent Tomlinson might have just debuted his first album as a country singer, but he’s already made a mark, with his new single “One Wing in the Fire” reaching #31 on the Billboard Charts.
November 12th @6PM: You may recognize John Corbett from his roles in Sex and the City, Northern Exposure and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. His newest success is in the country music sphere as the front man of The John Corbett Band. Since making the transition to music he’s had numerous Billboard hits.
For just $15 you can purchase a wristband that lets you on all the rides. With the admission price of $8 that brings the total up to $23. The days and times you can use All-rides wrist bands are as follows:
· Friday, November 3rd from Noon to 6PM
· Sunday, November 5th from 9AM to 10PM
· Thursday, November 9th from 5PM to 11PM
· Friday, November 10th from Noon to 6PM
· Sunday, November 12th from 9AM to 10PM
Students 17 and under get free admission with student passes from noon to 6PM, as well as discounts on rides on Saturday, November 4th and Saturday, November 11th.
Seniors already pay only $5 to the general public’s $8 for the fair admission, but on Friday, November 3rd and Friday, November 10th all seniors over 65 get in for free.

All Military personnel with a valid ID get in for free all day on Thursday, November 9th.
From Midnight to 5AM, pay just $25 for unlimited mechanical rides and admission on Friday, November 3rd and Friday, November 10th.
On Florida Lottery Night (Monday, November 6th) get a dollar off your admission price with a non-winning lottery ticket. Sunday, November 5th and November 12th get a free admission with a Jaguars ticket stub. Two people are admitted free on Sunday, November 12th with a church bulletin.
NovemBeer Fest! Sample over 23 stouts, lagers, ales and malts on November 10th.
Check out the Shark Encounter, a free fair experience that will be at the fair for the entire run. Another daily animal encounter is the Kachunga& the Alligator Show, where you can get your dose of alligator wrestling. If you want to see some pigs in top form, don’t miss the Robinson’s Racing Pigs. They’ll be racing daily. As always competitions and exhibitions will be open to the public. You’ll have plenty to look at: art, quilts, agriculture exhibits and even a dog show are just some of the things you can view.
November 4th, custom cars and bikes will be shown inside the Baseball Grounds at the Crusin’ to the Fair Show. On the 10th-12th, sports fans should visit the Sports Cards and Collectables Show in Exhibit Hall A. If you’re an excellent cook, why not enter one of the fair’s cooking contests for a chance at some extra cash and a ribbon you can brag about. Here are just three of the contests you can enter and walk away with ride money:
Eagle Brand, Cookie Bar Bonanza—Saturday, November 4th Exhibit Hall A.
Entries are accepted from noon to 2PM. Bake yourself a cookie bar using your own recipe and one can of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk and you’ve got an entry that could win you up to $100 in real money.
KC Masterpiece Memorable Meals Contest—Monday, November 6, Exhibit Hall A
An original recipe using at least half a cup of any KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce coupled with some sort of meat, chicken or seafood will get you into this contest. Entries are accepted from 5-7PM. First twenty contestants get a coupon for a free bottle of BBQ sauce. Prizes range from $150-$25.
Fleishmann’s Yeast “Best Ever” Baking Contest—-Tuesday, November 7th, Exhibit Hall A The competition is fierce, but if you win this competition you get bragging rights for at least a few years, a ribbon to go on the fridge and $150. Entries are accepted from 5-7PM. There’s a $25 prize for the best tasting recipe with a prep time of 30minutes or less. All entries must use Fleishmann’s yeast.
