a wholesome holiday show
Marie Osmond comes to Jacksonville

What: Marie Osmond’s Magic of Christmas Show
When: November 30th
Where: Times-Union Center For The Performing Arts

In one way or another, Marie Osmond has been entertaining an audience since she was just three years old. On Thursday the 30th, she’ll be entertaining Jacksonville at her Magic of Christmas Show.

When I spoke with Marie, she seemed eager to do the holiday show. Because of different family members falling ill, this is the first solo show run she’s done in about ten years. “We’ll be doing a plethora of different musical genres through my lifetime,” Marie said “just because a lot of people know me from different things.”

Her forty year career has covered a lot of ground, from her first appearance on The Andy Williams Show to selling embroidery sewing machines on QVC. She first became known, as part of the Osmonds, a musical group comprised of her and her older brothers. Later, at only twelve, she recorded the country hit ‘Paper Roses,’ which rocketed straight to number one on Billboard. In 1976, she and her brother Donnie Osmond hosted a variety show for a few years, while Marie started a career in TV-movie acting. She returned to country music recording in the mid-eighties and joined traveling musical companies in the nineties. The Marie Osmond’s Magic of Christmas Show will include a little bit of everything from Marie’s singing career. She’ll be singing the signature ‘Paper Roses,’ classic Christmas tunes and even, according to Marie, “a little bit of Broadway….We’re doing a little bit of The King and I, a little bit of The Sound of Music.”

To the younger generation, she’s simply known as the “doll lady” because she’s been selling her doll line on QVC for about 15 years. When I asked her why she decided to sell dolls, Marie explained: “I love things that bring generations together, it’s one of the reasons I started to do my dolls…Doll collecting had become almost a dying art.” Those that only know her from her distinctive doll collection shouldn’t miss the show. Not only will they get to see Marie’s musical talent, but they’ll also get the chance to buy a Marie Osmond Doll. “I will have a limited edition doll that I’m selling at the show, for the people that love my dolls, which we designed especially for Magic of Christmas… I’m going to be doing lots of different music things… so that these young kids can kind of get a little taste of the forty years of my life performing.”

If you want tickets for the Marie Osmond Magic of Christmas show you can charge by phone (904) 632-3373 or order online at www.artistseries.fccj.org. Marie says: “I guarantee that you’ll walk away with the Christmas spirit.”
