The British Museum will be loaning part of their extensive collection of Egyptian art and treasures to the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens from December 22nd until March 18th 2007. Come to the museum to view over 80 assorted pieces from the period just prior to the Third Dynasty to the Roman occupation of the 4th century. This exhibition will be the largest of its type seen in Jacksonville since the 1987 Ramses II exhibition at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. “This is a major show presented in The Cummer’s brand new large gallery,” said Museum Director Maarten van de Guchte. “These treasures of ancient Egyptian art are coming from The British Museum as part of the most important collection of this material outside of Egypt. This blockbuster exhibition will attract record crowds.”
December 22nd marks the grand opening of Temples and Tombs: Treasures of Egyptian Art from The British Museum at the Cummer. The opening will feature live Middle Eastern music, cuisine, dancing and art activities. To attend the opening from 7-9PM, call for reservations at (904) 899-6021. Museum members pay $10, non-members pay $35.
